Target Selection Process
In November 2006, NIAID and NHGRI jointly sponsored the Workshop on Eukaryotic Pathogens and Disease Vectors Sequencing (PDF) to help prioritize the most significant human eukaryotic pathogens and invertebrate vectors of infectious diseases for potential sequencing targets.
In response to recommendations developed at the workshop NIAID and NHGRI created a Working Group to work in consultation with the scientific community to generate community-based sequencing projects and recommend high priority eukaryotic pathogens and invertebrate vectors as potential sequencing targets in a white paper.
White papers are reviewed and assessed by: the NHGRI’s Coordinating Committee for Sequencing Target Selection, NHGRI’s National Advisory Council on Human Genome Research, and the NIAID Microbial Sequencing Program. Final target selection and sequencing center assignments will be made jointly by NIAID and NHGRI.
