Thomas J. Kindt, Ph.D., Director, Division of Intramural Research, NIAID
Director, Division of Intramural Research, Dr. Thomas J. Kindt addressed Council as part of his annual update on NIAID's intramural research program. He told Council that since 1994 DIR has had a tenure track, a process that includes a contract for resources and conditions for future tenure of promising investigators.
Dr. Kindt told Council that DIR's budget has remained at about 11.9 percent of NIAID's budget and that the majority of it pays for salaries.
This year, DIR's Board of Scientific Counselors reviewed the Laboratory of Immunology and the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Immunology as well as five mid-term tenure track scientists.
Further, DIR has recently instituted a new program to recruit and train underrepresented minority scientists under a new office headed by the Assistant Director for Special Emphasis Programs. |
