  1. The Immune Tolerance Network

Jeffrey A. Bluestone, Ph.D., Director, Immune Tolerance Network, University of California, San Francisco

Dr. Bluestone gave an overview and update on the Immune Tolerance Network, including ITN principles, accomplishments, tolerance assays, ITN funded projects, and future plans. In its first round of funding, the ITN awarded 12 projects, a full half of which went to investigators not part of the core Network. Of the 12 funded awards, nine are for clinical trials and three for assays; six more projects are in the final approval stage. ITN supports research to develop clinical strategies to induce tolerance in autoimmune diseases, asthma, and allergy, and to prevent kidney and islet transplant rejection.
