The National Advisory Allergy and Infectious Diseases Council convened in closed session to consider applications in the areas of allergy and immunology, microbiology and infectious diseases, and AIDS.
The Council reviewed 1,313 research and training applications with primary assignment to NIAID for a requested amount of $317,819,755 in first-year direct costs and recommended approval of 908 applications for $228,747,328 in first-year direct costs. Eight Method to Extend Research in Time (MERIT) awards were recommended for approval.
