About NIAID

James C. Hill

Previous NIAID Deputy Director, 1987-1995

Dr. James C. Hill worked closely and tirelessly with Institute staff and was a cohesive force in NIAID’s relations with other government agencies, Congress, activists, and other community and political leaders. Dr. Hill joined the NIAID Director’s Office in 1984 as a Special Assistant to the NIAID Director, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and was appointed Deputy Director in 1987.

NIAID Director, Dr. Fauci, dedicates a lecture series to the memory of Dr. James C. Hill, who as NIAID Deputy Director played an important role in the early years of the AIDS epidemic. His clear vision and gentle humor helped steer the institute on its course.
