Position Vacancies

Postdoctoral Fellow

A postdoctoral research opportunity is currently available at the Malaria Vaccine Development Branch (MVDB) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The MVDB is focused on the development, production, and testing of malarial vaccines in humans. The position will establish animal models to evaluate vaccine candidates and provide critical information for go/no go decision on vaccine development paths.

Position Requirements:

  • PhD; biology, microbiology, or biochemistry
  • In depth training in vector biology or molecular parasitology
  • Knowledge of malariology and immunology, and interests in translational research and development

Administrative Assistant

An Administrative Assistant opportunity is available to provide administrative and secretarial assistance to the Malaria Vaccine Development Branch (MVDB) Program Manager and Branch Chief. Duties will include: use of spreadsheet software for budget and other data management; use of word processing software for writing and editing documents; managing shipping requirements, including sending and receiving documents; preparing national and international travel orders; maintaining office records and maintaining office supplies inventory.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree; 4 plus years of administrative support (NIH experience preferred)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook

Clinical Coordinator

The Clinical Research Coordinator/Co-Investigator is responsible for management and implementation of Phase I and II malaria vaccine trials in collaboration with clinical trial sites in the US and overseas, including in Africa. The coordinator will act as a co-investigator in designing research protocols, analyzing data, and preparing presentations of research results. The coordinator will work with a team in the drafting of initial study documents, protocol amendments, and annual continuing reviews.

Position Requirements:

  • Masters Degree or equivalent; public health or nursing preferred
  • Minimum 5 years clinical research experience
  • Knowledge of current Good Clinical Practices

Project Manager

The Project Manager is responsible for the management of malaria vaccine development initiatives, including the production of vaccines for Phase I and II malaria vaccine trials. The Project Manager will coordinate the production, quality control, formulation and other components of the vaccine development process within the Malaria Vaccine Development Branch. The Project Manager will also be responsible for overseeing contractors and other external contributors to multiple concurrent malaria vaccine initiatives.

Position Requirements:

  • Masters Degree or PhD; biology, microbiology, chemistry or biochemistry
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries or related research and development organizations
  • Knowledge of current Good Laboratory Practices, current Good Manufacturing Practices and FDA drug approval process, particularly IND preparation
