Post-Collection Image Processing and Analysis
Equipment:
3 dual-Xeon Workstations
Software:
Imaris, Surpass, Coloc, Huygens, Image Pro Plus, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects
Three image processing workstations are available for image processing and analysis. No appointment is necessary to use the workstations; however, if assistance is required in use of the software, please schedule this in advance.
Analysis of collected images can be as simple as overlaying two channels of fluorescence data and saving the merged file. Other analyses of two-color images can include colocalization (or lack thereof). Still other analyses involve the quantification of fluorescence and comparison between samples. Three dimensional data sets can be reconstructed and rotated in space. Animations of these rotations can be converted to .avi movies for use in presentations. 3D data also can be converted into surface renderings for publication. In cases where very high resolution is required, the images can be deconvolved using the Huygens software available in the facility. Results of this type of processing can yield images showing very great detail.
For production of publication plates and photographs, Adobe Photoshop is ideal. Image size can be changed, labels added, and the images joined into plates. If movie sequences require editing, Adobe After Effects gives precise control of transitions, labeling, and duration.
