Training in NIAID Labs

NIAID Laboratory Research Training

If you're interested in postdoctoral training in one of the NIAID laboratories, check out the list of available NIAID postdoc positions. Applications can be submitted online.

Students should take a look at the research training opportunities available through NIAID DIR's Office of Training and Diversity.

The Selection Process

Candidates are selected for interviews based on their credentials and research interests. Interview visits to the NIH campus are designed to introduce potential trainees to NIH preceptors and to provide the candidate with the opportunity to explore in detail the nature of the research he or she may conduct.

A selected candidate is offered a position based on one of a number of appointment mechanisms, depending on availability of funding, the type of research to be conducted, and the qualifications of the candidate. For more information, see possible appointment mechanisms.

Student Loan Repayment Programs

Individuals with future appointment commitments, including but not limited or restricted to clinical associates, research associates, and AIDS research trainees, may be eligible for one of the NIH Loan Repayment Programs. For more information, see loan repayment programs.
