Pediatric Tuberculosis: Needs and Challenges

Goals and Objective

This meeting is intended to bring together scientists, clinicians, academicians, product developers and others who have an interest in and expertise in pediatric tuberculosis to discuss and develop priorities for pediatric TB research.

The meeting goals are to:

  • identify knowledge gaps in pediatric TB
  • identify areas where there are short- and long-term opportunities for advances in pediatric tuberculosis research
  • identify obstacles to research
  • identify areas of possible collaboration, coordination, and expansion of research activities

The topics to be discussed will include host pathogen factors and immunology, diagnostic challenges, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic considerations, pharmacogenetics, HIV coinfection, drug resistant tuberculosis in children and treatment and prevention.

Meeting Objective

  • Delineate short- and long-term priorities in pediatric tuberculosis research
