The Centers for AIDS Research (CFAR) program of the Division of AIDS, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and theNational Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) of theNational Institutes of Health provides administrative and shared research support through Core facilities to synergistically enhance and coordinate high quality AIDS and AIDS-related research projects requiring resources or services not otherwise readily obtained through more traditional funding mechanisms.
The CFAR program was recompeted in 1993 and 11 awards were made by NIAID and one by NIMH. The new CFAR program emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, especially between basic and clinical investigators, translational research in which findings from the laboratory are brought to the clinic and vice versa, and an emphasis upon inclusion of minorities and inclusion of prevention and behavioral change research.
Information on the Core Facilities of each of the CFARs is provided here to encourage collaborations. Applications for the use of CFAR facilities are reviewed by an Internal Review Committee for appropriateness; usage is subject to the availability of facilities. Questions concerning the NIAID CFAR program should be addressed to Dr. Janet M. Young and questions concerning the NIMH CFAR program should be addressed to Dr. Leonard Mitnick (see below). Investigators interested in collaborations should contact the specific Core Directors, below. This page will be updated as detailed information about each CFAR becomes available.
The CFAR Mission Statement was developed by the
CFAR Directors at the Annual Meeting on August 22, 1995.
Other AIDS resources are available on the Internet.
