Targeting HIV Vaccines
- HIV exists in the body in two forms: free viruses and virus-infected cells.
- Neutralizing antibodies may be required to eliminate free viruses.
- CTLs may be required to eliminate HIV-infected cells.
- A vaccine against HIV may need to stimulate both neutralizing antibodies and CTLs.
- A third immune response or combination of responses could be the key to an effective vaccine against HIV.
