Primary Immune Deficiency Disease Research Supported by NIH

NIH supports research in primary immune deficiency diseases (PIDDs) at clinical centers and universities across the United States.

United States Immunodeficiency Network (USIDNet)

Purpose

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to investigators new to the field of PIDD research
  • Facilitate collaboration between investigators

Responsibilities

Additional support for USIDNet is provided by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD).

Other PIDD Research Initiatives

NIAID, NICHD, and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute co-sponsor two types of exploratory/developmental investigations on PIDDs:

The purpose of these awards is to

  • Encourage investigators with expertise in immunology and infectious diseases to conduct research focusing on PIDDs
  • Stimulate research projects that use human samples or animal models to better understand PIDDs
